In the Niagara region, where the climate is generally mild and the soil can be challenging, choosing the right trees for your landscape is crucial. When it comes to creating a natural barrier or defining property lines, bulk cedar trees are an excellent option for homeowners in Pelham.

Cedar trees are a popular choice for landscaping in the Niagara region due to their natural resistance to pests and diseases, as well as their ability to thrive in a variety of soil conditions. Western red cedar, in particular, is well-suited to the local climate and can grow up to 80 feet tall with a spread of around 20 feet.

For those looking to create a natural hedge or screen, planting a cedar hedge is an excellent option. Cedar trees can be planted close together, making them an ideal choice for defining property lines or creating a sense of seclusion. A general rule of thumb is to plant cedar trees 6-8 feet apart for a single row, although this can be adjusted based on the specific growth habits of the trees and the desired density of the hedge.

When selecting cedar trees for bulk purchase, it’s essential to consider the size of the trees and their intended use. Smaller trees (around 1-2 feet tall) are often used for instant hedging, while larger trees (around 3-6 feet tall) can be used to create a more mature hedge over time.

When planting a cedar hedge, it’s essential to ensure that the trees are planted at the correct depth. The root flare (where the trunk flares out at the base of the tree) should be level with the soil surface. After planting, it’s essential to water the trees regularly, especially during the first growing season. Mulching around the base of the trees can also help retain moisture and suppress weeds.
